Q1.1 I can't boot from the CD-Rom that I burnt, how can I make it work?
A1.1 There are two possible causes for this. The first one will be down to the configuration of your machine. Normally, this works best if your CD drive is connected to the Secondary Master if you have both a Primary and Secondary bus. Otherwise, it should be connected to the Primary Slave. In all cases, your hard drive should be connected to the Primary Master. In addition, don't forget to check the BIOS settings. Is the CD drive one of the supported boot devices? Is it looked at before the hard drive? The best boot order for a CensorNet is CD first, Floppy second, Disc last.
The second and frankly more common occurrence is that the MD5 checksum on the image you downloaded from our site is incorrect, or that the burn process failed. The MD5 checksum for the ISO image is listed on our download page, next to the download link. MD5 checksum checkers for Windows machines are available for free all over the web. I use WinMD5Sum available for download from http://winmd5sum.solidblue.biz to ensure that my download is correct. All you have to do is compare the checksum from the downloaded file against that listed on our website. If your MD5 checksum matches then the ISO you downloaded is fine and it is likely that you have a bad burn - try burning the ISO at a slower speed using your CD writing software. If your MD5 is incorrect, you need to download the ISO again, and check it before burning a new disc.
Q1.2 I'm installing the CensorNet and it says it can't determine my drive type. Help!
A1.2 Don't panic! There is an "Advanced" button staring you in the face, press it. You'll notice that you are now being asked three questions, your drive's device name and those of two partitions. Suggestions are included in the rubric. The CensorNet only cares about the drive itself, a root partition, and a swap partition. The most common answers to this question are that you need sda in the first box, sda1 in the second box and sda2 in the third box. If the install process proceeds to the formatting page, and succeeds formatting the drive, you've answered correctly. If not, you'll have to start again, use one of the alternative options listed in the rubric. Remember, you're specifying the drive, and the first and second partitions to be used.
Q1.3 It's asking me to specify how much space to use. What should I tell it?
A1.3 As mentioned in A1.2, the CensorNet only cares about the root partition, and a swap partition. This means you can allocate nearly all of the space for the first (root) partition, but you need to allow some space for the swap. The full size of the disc is already shown. You need to know how much RAM your system has. As a general rule of thumb, allow twice this much for swap space. When you've worked out how much this is, subtract that from the shown figure for the first partition and enter that value. Then enter the swap space size for the second partition. The system should then be able to format the drive accordingly.
